At Ngurraga School, our Secondary program is designed to prepare every student for a meaningful and successful life beyond school. Through personalised learning, students develop independence, confidence and practical life skills while exploring their strengths, interests and future aspirations.

 

Learning across all secondary years is underpinned by the principles of Applied Learning, where students learn through authentic, meaningful experiences that connect classroom learning with everyday life, the community and the workplace.

 

 

Students continue to learn through the Victorian Curriculum while gradually increasing their participation in Applied Learning experiences. Alongside classroom learning, students begin exploring vocational interests through practical, hands-on programs that reflect their individual strengths and interests. These experiences may include hospitality, horticulture, creative industries, enterprise and community-based learning, with many opportunities supported through the ASDAN Towards Independence curriculum.

 

 

As students move into Senior Secondary, learning becomes increasingly personalised and focused on preparing for life beyond school. Students participate in a balance of classroom learning and authentic community experiences, including Structured Workplace Learning and Structured Community Engagement, while working alongside families and staff to develop an individual post-school pathway.

 

Students access learning aligned with the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) at a level appropriate to their individual needs. Students graduate with recognised evidence of their learning through the Victorian Pathways Certificate or a Student Achievement Profile, alongside a personalised Senior Student Learning Portfolio showcasing their achievements through ASDAN Towards Independence.

 

Our vision is that every student leaves Ngurraga School with the skills, confidence and support needed to transition successfully into employment, further learning, community participation or greater independence. Through strong partnerships with families, community organisations and industry, we work together to ensure each student has a clear and achievable vision for life beyond school.
